CREWS READY FOR REGIONAL FIRE & SECURITY SAFARI

CREWS READY FOR REGIONAL FIRE & SECURITY SAFARI

Weather patterns promise tough conditions

Recent weather patterns and those predicted for the coming weeks promise to provide ideal conditions for the Regional Fire & Security September Safari, the next round of the 2011 WTI MudDogs Safari Championship and the Chefette MudDogs Safari Novice Championship, which will be contested on Sunday, September 11.

The first crew is scheduled to leave the Barbados Clay Target Shooting Association (BCTSA) Clubhouse, Searles, Christ Church, at 8.01am; the lunch stop-over will be at 11.30am at the ARMAG Vegetable Outlet and the finish at approximately 4.30pm at Searles Quarry, where some special Driver Challenges are planned. The route has been set by Biddy Barber and Phillip McConney and rechecked by Biddy’s son Brett and Graham Proverbs.

Chairman of the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) MudDogs Warren Gollop says: “It is more than two months since our last event, the Shelbury Construction June Safari. I am sure that all our members are itching to get back into their vehicles to tackle all of this fresh mud that the recent weather conditions have blessed us with!

“I must thank Regional Fire & Security for continuing their sponsorship, also Biddy and Phillip for using their wealth of experience in setting the route. Biddy is very excited for our competitors to find out where she has arranged for it all to be, so I’m urging them not disappoint her. We are having some specially extended challenges at the conclusion of the Safari, so I hope there will be a good turn-out at Searles Quarry, where refreshments will be available!”

The Regional Fire & Security September Safari is the fourth round of five in the WTI Safari and the Chefette Safari Novice Championships, which are contested over an eight-month period. In calculating the final positions, crews will drop their worst score, if they have participated in all five events, so the outcome of next week’s event will give a clear indication of what they need to do in the Nassco October Safari, which will bring the Championships to a conclusion.

Entries are now open at Motorsport Services in Haggatt Hall and will close next Tuesday (September 6) at 2.00pm – competitors are advised that Motorsport Services currently closes at 2.00pm Monday to Friday; the Briefing Meeting will be at 7.00pm the same evening at the BCTSA Club House, after which the entry list will be released. The Prizegiving for the Regional Fire & Security September Safari will be held at the same venue on Monday, September 12.
